You can make a reservation for the same hotel(room) but you have to pay your own cost for the room and meals.
It's still a long time to go before the convention starts and the following itinerary may undergo changes.
On Monday, July 7, 2008, coaches will depart at 8AM for a round trip of the old Zuiderzee.
We will drive through new land (actually the bottom of the Zuiderzee) to Lelystad, where we visit the Batavia Yard. Exact replica's of 17th-century East Indiamen are built here, using the original contruction drawings.
One ship, "The Batavia", is finished and a second, the man o'war "7 Provinces", is under construction. The Batavia was shipwrecked in 1629 on a reef near the Australian coast. Part of the 1986 NBC mini-series 'Peter the Great' was filmed at the Batavia Yard.
We continue around 11:30AM to Marken, by way of the 19 miles long dike that connects Lelystad to old country near Enkhuizen. Marken is a small island where time stood still. It is now connected to the mainland by a causeway, but we will leave Marken by boat. The 30 minute voyage will take us to the bustling fishing town of Volendam, also known as 'the souvenir shop of Holland'. It's also a good place for lunch.
Coaches will depart from Volendam at 4PM for a short drive to Zaanse Schans, a hamlet with well-preserved houses and industrial windmills. Also souvenir shops, a cheese farm and a wooden shoe workshop.
From Zaanse Schans we will return to Hotel Avifauna. We will find a nice place halfway where we can have a meal. Expected return in the hotel around 8:30PM.
